What is the Outstanding Tiny Desk meme?
The Outstanding Tiny Desk meme comes from a live desk-concert performance of “Outstanding”, the 1982 Gap Band hit. In the clip, the lead singer laughs his way through the chorus while backing singers sway behind a red keyboard and a saxophone takes a solo. That joyful moment spread as a meme, and now as an AI trend where people take the lead singer’s seat themselves.
Outstanding Tiny Desk AI videos put you behind that desk. SelfieTrend makes one from a single photo in two ways. “Put me in this clip” swaps you in as the lead singer of our desk-concert clip in one step. “Create my own scene” first shows you a still of yourself at the desk, mic in hand, so you can change the outfit or the band before we animate it into an 8-second vertical video with sound.

How to make an Outstanding Tiny Desk AI video
- 1
Upload a photo where you look happy
The meme is all about joy, so a smiling, front-facing photo of yourself or of an adult who agreed works best. Keep your eyes and mouth visible.
- 2
Pick the quick swap or your own scene
“Put me in this clip” goes straight to the video. “Create my own scene” gives you a free watermarked still first; add “laughing, backing singers in black” to the description to lean into the Outstanding look.
- 3
Make the video and add the song
Confirm the video price and download the MP4. Then post it on TikTok or Reels and add the trending “Outstanding” sound from the app’s library.
How the meme plays out
0–2 s
The set-up
You behind the desk, mic up, the band warm and ready.
2–5 s
The big grin
The camera moves in as you lean into the line, clearly having the time of your life.
5–8 s
The outstanding moment
Full voice in close-up: the beat you line up with the chorus when you add the sound.
Tips for an outstanding result
Smile in your photo
A relaxed smile carries into the performance far better than a serious face.
Face the camera
A straight-on photo of one person gives the AI the clearest view of your face.
Dress the part in the description
Try “black shirt and gold chain”, “velvet blazer” or “sunglasses pushed up on the head” to give your lead singer some stage presence.
Time the chorus
When you add the trending sound, start it so the “outstanding” line lands on the close-up.
Outstanding Tiny Desk AI vs the regular Tiny Desk AI template
Both use the same desk-concert scene and the same generator. This page is about the Outstanding meme: the laughing lead singer and the band grooving behind. Our Tiny Desk AI page covers the wider trend of putting yourself in any desk concert. Start from whichever matches the clip you saw.
About the song
Your video comes with generated vocals and music, not the original recording of “Outstanding”, so it is yours to post. To get the meme sound, upload the MP4 to TikTok or Instagram, lower the original audio and pick the trending “Outstanding” sound in the app. The platforms license their sound libraries; we do not add copyrighted songs.
Caption ideas
Try “my outstanding Tiny Desk debut”, “when the group project actually went well”, “the band said outstanding, so here we are” or “one photo, one desk, outstanding”. Tag a friend to make the backing-singer version.
Pricing
The still in “Create my own scene” is a free, watermarked preview. You pay only for the video: $6.90 for one, $24.90 for five or $59.90 for fifteen, with no subscription. “Put me in this clip” goes straight to the video and uses one video. If a video fails, it is returned to your balance automatically.
